An Introduction to Web Cleaning

To fully understand the advantages of web cleaning, you must first know the physics of web contamination. The dust and fibres generated in the production of paper, board, film and foil are held on the web because of the interaction of three distinct layers of activity:

Static layer

Electrostatic charge is created when the web is in contact with rotating rolls in the production process. The electrostatic charge of the static layer actively attracts and detains dust and fibres to the web.

Moisture layer

The moisture layer that occurs on paper webs, depending on moist climate in the production facilities also detains particles on the web surface.

Boundary air layer

Finally, the boundary layer of air, which is formed above the surface of a moving web, traps particles on the surface. The combination of these three different layers also makes it impossible for simple brush or cloth installations to remove the dust effectively, because this technology - together with most other technologies available - does not penetrate all three layers simultaneously. That's why you need a web cleaning system from KELVA!
